PT Sarmiento Parakantja Timber, 216,580 ha concession in Central Kalimantan has just been awarded the TFF has awarded the “Legal Verified” mark after passing external audit  against the RIL technical standard.  This mark of achievement follows closely on the addition of two new participants in TFF's "Forest-Market Linking Program.

1. PT Wapoga Mutiara II, independently audited by SmartWood against the SmartWood VLO standard (equal to TFFs ‘Legal Origin’ standard), signed an agreement with TFF on December 17, 2009, committing the concession to full adoption of the RIL practices.   This is the second ‘Merbau’ producing concession to be awarded a certificate of legal origin but only the first concession in Papua to sign on to TFFs ‘Forest-Market Linking Program’.


2. PT Sindo Lumber, independently audited by TUV against the TFF ‘Legal Compliance’ standard, signed an agreement with TFF on January 1, 2010 committing the concession to full adoption of RIL within 2 years.  Sindo is the sister company of PT Indexim Utama who is already a participant in the TFF ‘Forest-Market Linking Program’.

This now puts the natural forest area under direct participation in TFFs ‘Forest-Market Linking Program at over 1.12 million hectares.

Providing independent and highly credible verification of legality …. A chain-of-custody system from the forest to and through the industry …. and, clear evidence of improved forest management, TFF’s Forest-Market Linking Program is the next best thing to full forest certification!

Since it’s official launch in mid-2007, this program has received strong endorsement from the Indonesian forest industry and has been welcomed by importers into the North American, European Union, and Australian markets.

Market pressure is brought to bear on forest management concerns in a way that is practical and delivers results.   At the same time, buyers receive assurances of legality that will pass any test.
