Scene: Tiger wanders around village

The Jakarta Post | Mon, 11/21/2011 11:59 PM

BENGKULU: Residents of Tebat Monok village, Kepahiang district, Bengkulu province, live in fear as a Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrea) has been spotted around the village.

“We are afraid to go to our fields or conduct activities outside our homes because we often see the tiger, but it has not yet been captured,” resident Nurwandi said, as quoted by Antara news agency.

He said that fear increased after the tiger allegedly attacked a 5-year-old child, killing him. The attack took place in the Bukit Daun conservation forest area, where the child’s parents had cleared a field. Nurwandi hoped that the authorities could relocate the tiger back into forest or execute evacuation measures so residents proceed to live in peace.
