Govt urged to bring Mesuji perpetrators to court
The Jakarta Post | Tue, 01/03/2012 10:33 AM
Jakarta: A fact-finding team investigating separate incidents in Mesuji, Lampung called on the government to speed up the legal process and bring perpetrators to court.
The team also concluded that the core problem in the fatal incidents in Lampung was a land dispute between palm oil companies and local people.
“We found that the police stepped in only after the conflict between the people and companies got worse. Therefore, the core conflict is between companies and the people,” said Team member Denny Indrayana.
The team reported seven people were killed in the incidents — one person in the Register 45 area in Mesuji Regency; one in Sritanjung village, also in the same regency; and seven in Sungai Sodong village in Mesuji District. (msa)
