| July 2007 – Recognition of their shared objectives towards 1) increasing the area of natural forest under sustainable forest management, and 2) promoting trade in legally and sustainably sourced wood products in Indonesia, has led TFT and TFF to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. |

| The MOU establishes a framework for cooperation between the two organizations; to develop strategies for future engagement, to encourage the sharing of each organization’s tools and methodologies, and to enhance communication and progress towards the objectives of the partnership. |

| Pressure from agricultural conversion, land degradation and unsustainable forest use, continues to threaten the tropical forests of Indonesia, as elsewhere throughout the world. In fact every year, 13 million hectares of forests are lost from deforestation with corresponding impacts on biodiversity, people and climate. TFT and TFF both work to promote the value of forests, and to build local capacity for implementing sustainable forest practices. The MOU seeks to identify synergies, enhance organizational efficiency and ultimately –promote the program effectiveness. |

| TFT and TFF will work together to provide technical inputs to forest management enterprises of mutual interest in Indonesia, and work to increase the capacity of both organizations by conducting trainings, sharing organizational tools and resources. |

| Tropical Forest Trust (TFT) is a UK registered charity, with offices in Switzerland, UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Gabon. TFT implements Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification support programs in TFT member forests and links the trade of wood from these programs to TFT retailers in Europe and the USA through manufacturers in Asia Pacific.
